Allagash Oyster Stout Label
Overview
The Allagash Oyster Stout label is a conceptual packaging design created for a new beer release inspired by Portland, Maine’s coastal identity. Designed and illustrated in Adobe Illustrator and mocked up in Photoshop, the project features a hand-drawn, narrative-driven label applied to a champagne-style bottle. The artwork blends local landscape imagery with the beer’s oyster stout concept to create a cohesive and visually distinctive product identity.
Problem
Craft beer packaging is often visually crowded or overly literal, making it difficult for brands to stand out on shelves while still communicating flavor and origin. For a specialty product like an oyster stout, the challenge was to create a label that reflects both the coastal heritage of Portland, Maine and the unique character of the beer without relying on generic seafood or nautical clichés.
Solution
The label was designed using a hand-illustrated approach to create a more artistic and storytelling-driven identity. The composition depicts the Portland, Maine coastline, where oysters organically transition into the landscape itself, symbolizing the beer’s key ingredient and coastal influence. By integrating illustration with conceptual storytelling, the design balances refinement with creativity. The final artwork was applied to a champagne-style bottle mockup in Photoshop to elevate the product’s perceived value and emphasize its premium, limited-edition feel.
Outcome
The final result is a distinctive and visually engaging packaging concept that elevates the Allagash Oyster Stout into a premium, narrative-driven product. The illustration captures both the geographic identity of Portland and the essence of the beer in a cohesive visual system. This project demonstrates my ability to merge illustration and branding, develop concept-driven packaging, and execute professional mockups that communicate product positioning and shelf impact.
